Moskovsky children's theater shadows
The Moscow Children's Shadow Theater was the first in Russia to use the techniques of shadow theater, here they skillfully combine the view ancient art and classic plots. The authors call their performance a draft, but it turned out to be very interesting, and has been loved by the audience for more than five years.
Home theater
Home Theater was founded by GITIS graduates - Olga Zeiger and Arseny Epelbaum. It turned out to be a real theater house, where there is theatre studio for kids. In it, children get to know the theater first behind the scenes, study theatrical genres, help create costumes and sets for performances, and then go on stage and play the roles of Onegin, Odyssey, Hercules, Juliet, Athena.

"Gruffalo" is a fairy tale in verse for reading by adults. A little mouse walks through a dense forest and, in order to escape from a fox, an owl and a snake, invents a terrible Gruffalo - an animal that loves to eat foxes, owls and snakes.
But can a resourceful mouse outwit all hungry predators? After all, he knows very well that there are no Gruffalo ... Or does it happen?

How to do
1. Download and print shadow theater hero templates. Paste on black cardboard. 
2. Cut out the figures and glue a wooden skewer to each.

Lay the box out in one plane. On large rectangular parts of the box, draw a frame, stepping back 1.5-2 cm from the edges. Cut along the marked lines.
4. Reassemble the box as it was, but with the colored side inward.

6. Cut the trees out of black cardboard and paste onto a white sheet.

9. Secure the screen to the edge of the table with tape.
10. Install the lamp at the back at a distance of 2-3 meters from the screen. For the shadows to be clear, the light must fall directly, not from the side. Remember to warn your child to be careful with the hot lamp.
Shadow theater is ready! Turn off the lights, invite spectators, and act out a shadow show.

Hand shadow theater is one of the simplest forms of shadow art. For his equipment, you will need the most common items - a table lamp and a screen - big leaf white paper or cloth. If the room has light walls, a theatrical performance of light and shadow can be shown directly on the wall.
The pictures show how with the help of hands you can create silhouettes of animals, birds, people. With practice, you can bring shadows to life and tell your own story.
- You can start acquainting children with the shadow theater from 1.5-2 years old. The first classes should be held as a theatrical performance, when an adult plays the roles, and the children act as spectators. After the child understands the rules and traditions theatrical art, he can be included in the game as a participant in the action. Children play and voice roles, learn texts and poems. At first, trust small, uncomplicated roles. Then complicate things gradually.
- Cardboard figures of shadow theater actors should be black, then they will be contrasting and noticeable on the screen. For DIY figurines, use curly stencils. If you plan to reuse homemade figurines, we recommend laminating them.
- In order to make the shadows clear, place the light source behind a little to the side of the screen. The light source will be an ordinary desk lamp or flashlight.
- The size of the shadow on the screen depends on the distance from the figure to the lamp. If you bring the figurine closer to the screen, then its shadow becomes small and clear. If you place it further, the shadow will increase in size, and the outlines will be blurred.
- To prevent the decorations from moving during the performance, attach them to the screen itself with tape or paper clips.
- Whatman paper, tracing paper or white sheet is perfect as a screen. The smaller the screen you use, the thinner and more transparent it needs to be, and the brighter you need a light source.
- In order to create a theatrical atmosphere, you can draw a poster, tickets and even arrange an intermission.

Moscow Children's Shadow Theater
The described theater has a difficult fate and an extensive history. Its origins go back to 1934, when the artist E. Zonnenstral led a children's drawing circle at the Moscow Museum of Children's Books. Then she was joined by director S. Svobodina, who took the circle's activities to a new level. Now Shadow Theater toured children's camps and schools, spreading its magic. Unfortunately, during the Great Patriotic War The Moscow children's shadow theater was destroyed. After the war, the acting troupe did not have a permanent place. But in 1988 the theater received its house in Moscow on Izmailovsky Boulevard.
The stages of development of the Moscow children's shadow theater can be considered the modernization of the puppets themselves. From the 30s to the 50s of the XX century, shadow theater worked exclusively with a projection doll, the silhouette of which was projected onto the screen with the help of a correctly installed light. Then, from the beginning of the 60s, the acting troupe has been studying the traditions of the Chinese shadow theater, namely the "puppet in the light". This means that with the help of the theater lighting from above and the unusual design of the doll, it makes it possible to obtain a three-dimensional image. The first positive experience of using the Chinese technique was the production of "Come, a fairy tale!" The next breakthrough in shadow art was made by the new director E. I. May in 1963. His innovation consisted in the fact that he combined a shadow doll on the screen and a three-dimensional doll on the screen in the play "Aibolit". This gave more space for the realization of all artistic ideas.

Repertoire
The list of performances is relatively small. It includes performances for the little ones as well as for adolescents.
The repertoire includes a production that is practically absent in other children's theaters. The play "Classics for the little ones. Giselle" is staged for children aged 1+ (duration 35 minutes) to give the little audience a little magic, after which they will remain in a good mood.
For the target audience aged 5+, the repertoire is quite extensive: "Thumbelina", "How Dad and I went to the forest for a Christmas tree", "The Little Humpbacked Horse", "A Kitten named Woof", "Sweet Liza".
For children aged 6+, the Children's Moscow Shadow Theater has prepared an educational tour performance "Where Shadows Live" and a master class "An Evening Fairy Tale".

Actors in shadow theater are not just actors, they are wizards, thanks to whom the dolls and their shadows come to life. The acting troupe is small, but has all the skills of shadow art on a professional level.
