How to choose your own perfume. A lady's calling card: how to choose your perfume scent

- this is a very concentrated mixture essential oils, so they have a persistent aroma, last on the skin for about 12 hours, and on clothes for several days,” says perfume store consultant Irina Kononova. “They are usually produced in tiny bottles, and perfumes, for obvious reasons, are more expensive than eau de toilette.

Eau de parfum differs from perfume in that the concentration of essential oils in it is from 15 to 20%, so the aroma lasts on the skin for about 5 hours, and on clothes - up to 2 days. The concentration of perfume in eau de toilette does not exceed 5%, and the aroma disappears after a couple of hours. This is why eau de toilette is usually very cheap, but a woman can change scents every day to suit a new look.

Body spray is even lighter than eau de toilette; it is no coincidence that it is called body mist - “body mist”. It envelops a woman in a cloud of aroma, delicate, transparent and airy. The spray is even cheaper, so you can put together a whole collection of perfumes for all occasions.”

How to choose your scent?

Choosing a fragrance is a real art, because perfume should suit a woman’s character and age. The ideal perfume is a lady’s calling card, a stylish accessory and a wardrobe element. It is no coincidence that Coco Chanel called perfume a woman’s clothing, and Marilyn Monroe, when asked what she wears at night, answered: “Nothing but Chanel No. 5.”

When choosing eau de toilette in a store, keep in mind that there are three levels of fragrance manifestation. You open the cap of the bottle and feel a bright, slightly pungent smell - this is the initial aroma, from which you cannot yet get a complete picture of the perfume. If you apply perfume to your skin, the aroma will begin to open like a flower, and the perfume will become more intense - this is the main, or middle, aroma that is felt throughout the day. The residual smell is felt after the perfume begins to fade, and the aroma becomes thinner and lighter. The most important rule in choosing perfume is that you should like the scent on all three levels. Only in this case can you consider that you have found your perfume!

Several rules for choosing perfume

It is best to choose perfume in the first half of the day, since in the morning the olfactory organs work better, and in the evening their sensitivity decreases and we perceive odors less easily. Olfactory receptors also malfunction during the menstrual cycle, so it is best to choose perfume before your period begins. On this day, do not use any perfume, deodorant, shampoo or shower gel to keep your sense of smell fresh. Buy perfume only in a specialized perfume store or department, do not trust the stalls in the subway passage and do not buy perfume from hand, as there is a high probability of getting a fake. And do not smell more than four perfumes at a time, because your nose will lose sensitivity and you will not be able to detect the nuances of the aroma. First, spray the perfume onto the test strip, wait a few seconds and inhale the scent from a distance of 3-4 cm. If you like it, carefully apply a drop of perfume to your wrist, wait 10 minutes, and then smell again. However, it is better to walk around with this scent for another day, sniffing periodically to catch how it unfolds on your skin.

Perfumer

“Buying perfume is like choosing a lover. You must first spend the night with him, and only then will it become clear whether you are suitable for each other.”

Choosing perfumes according to the time of year

The same aroma sounds different at different times of the year. Some perfumes become completely unbearable in extreme heat, while others, on the contrary, give coolness and freshness. In winter, on the contrary, you want something more sultry and bright, and in cold weather the aromas are felt weaker.

The main feature of summer perfumes is that they reveal themselves more brightly and multifacetedly on heated skin. The best perfume compositions for the hot season are herbal, floral, fruity, citrus, with the aroma of sea breeze, green tea, bergamot, cedar and juniper. The ideal choice is Eau de Rochas from Rochas, Gieffeffe from Gianfranco Ferre, Chloe from Lagerfeld, Eternity from Calvin Klein, Chanel No. 19 from Chanel, Gio from Giorgio Armani.

For autumn, warming scents are more suitable - chypre, woody and amber. Perfume with notes of chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, vanilla and cardamom perfectly dispels the autumn blues and lifts your spirits. Pay attention to the warm and delicate scents of Angel from Thierry Mugler, Pink Sugar from Aquollina, Hypnotic Poison from Christian Dior, Mat Chocolat from Masaki Matsushima, Candy from Prada and Nina from Nina Ricci.

Winter perfumes give warmth, create a spiritual atmosphere of coziness and comfort. As a rule, they are more rich and persistent, enriched with notes of spices and spices, sensual and tart in an oriental way. Nutmeg, rose and woody scents are also suitable for the cold season. Pay attention to Sensi perfumes from Armani, Opium Oriental from Yves Saint Laurent, Samsara from Guerlain, Dioressense from Christian Dior and Sublime from Jean Patou - they are perfect for winter!

In spring, when nature awakens, delicate and sensual aromas with notes of lilac, lily of the valley, mimosa and jasmine become relevant. Their light, unobtrusive aroma perfectly refreshes and fills you with joy. The aromas of cherry, blackberry, raspberry and sweet orange will harmoniously fit into the spring mood. In this regard, you will probably like the fragrances Mimosa Indigo from Atelier Cologne, Air di Gioia and Sun di Gioia from Giorgio Armani, Mimosa & Cardamom from Jo Malone and Cherry Fantasy from Nina Ricci.

Flavors and age

Stylist Olga Ignatova talks about the role perfume plays in creating an individual female image.

“It turns out that perfume can also age you, just like bad hairstyle or makeup, so it’s important to choose fragrances according to your age. At least, mature ladies do not like cucumber or chocolate-vanilla notes, but chypre scents are the true embodiment of elegance and style. The most popular chypre fragrances in the world that will never disappoint you are CHANEL No. 19, Mitsouko Guerlain, Aromatics Elixir Clinique, Eau du Soir by Sisley, Bandit by Robert Piguet, Ricci Ricci Nina Ricci and Gucci by Gucci Eau de Toilette.”

Young girls are suitable for light and fresh aromas, the perfume composition of which is dominated by fruit, berry, citrus and floral accords. Some perfumes combine tenderness and sensuality with boldness and rebellion. In the top of the best fragrances for girls you will find Escada Lily Chic, Bright Crystal from Versace, Mademoiselle Chanel, Baby Doll from Yves Saint Laurent, Flora by Gucci Eau Fraiche and Daisy Eau So Fresh Sunshine from Marc Jacobs.

The most fashionable perfumes of 2017

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle perfume is very sensual, gentle and playful at the same time.

Orange, mandarin and bergamot reign in the very center of the citrus composition, and fragrant notes of patchouli and vetiver are imperceptibly but harmoniously woven into this pattern.

Moonlight in Heaven by Kilian is made of mango, coconut and pink pepper, with notes of citrus and tonka wood. Perfume creates a romantic mood and immerses you in the exoticism of a seaside resort.

Chance Eau Fraiche is a zesty scent with a citrusy mood in a lavender haze. These perfumes are a lighter version of traditional Chanel scents. They intoxicate with the freshness of orange flowers and roses, the tartness of sandalwood and moss, while vanilla and white musk give the aroma royal sophistication.

Despite the advice of stylists and perfume experts, when choosing a fragrance, be guided primarily by your taste. And if they tell you that at your age you shouldn’t use fresh perfume with the aroma of a sea breeze, don’t listen to anyone and buy the scent you like. Only you know what will make you happy!

In 1920, the idea of using food in perfumery first appeared - thus, very creative perfumes with the aroma of meat Bacon Gold and Bacon Classic from Fargginay were created. But even more unusual are the edible perfumes Swalloable Parfum, made in the form of tablets. After taking the tablets orally, perfume substances come out through the pores, creating a natural aroma. Also on the market are perfumes that smell like pumpkin pie, donuts, toast, pizza, burgers, lobster and blue cheese.

" Green notes are also often used in top layers of perfumes to give them a fresh, light scent.

Aldehydic.
Aldehydes are exciting synthetic aromas that are unlike any natural odors. These delightfully fresh and clean scents add a certain sophistication to spicy, woody and floral notes. Therefore, while most categories of fragrances are distinct and very specific, some of them can overlap - this is especially common with aldehyde perfumes. For example, Lanvin Arpege and Chanel 5 are classified as aldehydic modern blends because they have characteristic features freshness and spice, while Byredo Blanche and Chanel 22 are more aldehydic floral perfumes, as their woody and floral notes give them a soft, powdery scent.

Eastern.
Oriental perfumes are the boldest of all scents. Mysteriously sweet and spicy, they surround you with a heady scent of vanilla, sandalwood, cinnamon and spice - these notes are often used, like the bottom notes of other perfumes, to enhance their longevity. Beyond any competition here are “Chanel Allure”, “Christian Dior Dune”, “Dolce&Gabbana The One”, “Thierry Mugler Angel”, “Thierry Mugler Alien”, “Tom Ford Black Orchid”, “Lancome Tresor” and “Yves Saint Laurent Opium” " However, some oriental perfumes do not have such a clear sweet and spicy aroma. For example, Versace Crystal Noir is a modern oriental fragrance, distinguished by its sharper top note and floral core, while Givenchy Organza and Christian Dior Oud Ispahan are classified as floral oriental due to their its floral and fruity notes. Those who love the exotic will undoubtedly like oriental perfumes. Some are traditionally sweet and spicy, others are better described as fruity, and others have more modern flavors.

Chypres.
Chypres are distinguished by their modern yet classic combination of aromas of trees and mosses, giving warmth and depth to the perfume. Three examples of such perfumes are Chanel Chance, Givenchy Ysatis and Lancome Magie Noire (often classified as a floral chypre due to the presence of rich floral notes). Many fragrances for men fall into this group - for example, Aramis Aramis, Coty Stetson and Chanel Antaeus.

Floral.
From feminine and frivolous to rich and romantic, floral scents are good for any time. Of the six categories, the floral group is the most popular, and this is undoubtedly due to the wide variety of scents in this group. Floral perfumes can create the image of a single flower, or they can remind you of a whole bouquet. Floral perfume scents range from feminine and frivolous to rich and romantic. Some floral scents are more sweet, some are light, and some are fruity. There are also combinations of them. The brightest bestsellers from the class of floral fragrances: “Christian Dior J"adore", "Christian Dior Poison", "Nina Ricci Nina", "Kenzo L"eau Par Kenzo", "Lancome Miracle", "Lanvin L"Homme", " Hugo Boss Hugo Deep Red", "Guy Laroche Fidji", "Givenchy Ange Ou Demon Le Secret Elixir".

Animalistic.
Animalistic notes are often used in perfumes to give them a sensual accent and greater longevity of the aroma. There may also be perfumes that entirely belong to this category. The most the brightest examples such fragrances: “Cacharel Noa”, “Burberry The Beat”, “Calvin Klein Contradiction”, “Kenzo Amour”, “Moschino Couture”. Animalistic perfumes are easily identified by their warm, musky scent and by their name, which almost certainly contains the word “musk”. For example: “Montale Roses Musk”, “Narciso Rodriguez for her Musk”, “Lorenzo Villoresi Musk”, “Amouage Musk Abyadh”, “Kilian Musk Oud”.

Perfume test on skin

Spray your favorite perfume on your right wrist. Don't be greedy! This is an experiment. And keep the bottle ready, you will need it again soon. I can’t even believe that it could take a specialist many years to create a scent that you will smell in just a few seconds. Considering that perfumers have thousands upon thousands of essences at their disposal, it is not difficult to understand why this is the case.

Some perfumes can contain between 75 and 200 ingredients. A number of essences that the perfumer uses are obtained by distilling plant materials - flowers, herbs, medicinal plants, aromatic spices, bark, wood, tree resins, mosses and even vegetables. Other essences are synthetic.

There are two main types of synthetic ingredients - those that mimic natural scents and are designed primarily to reduce the cost of making perfumes, and those that are completely unique, inimitable, or modern in nature. However, using any specific ingredients is not everything.

How different essences are combined, in what quantity they are included in the perfume - all this makes as much contribution to the final effect and durability of the resulting aroma as the selection of its components. The attractiveness of perfumes is also due to the fact that many of them change their smell after application to the skin. The different evaporation times, or layers of a perfume, are often referred to by specialists as notes: top notes, middle notes and bottom notes. Generally speaking, lighter ingredients and those with fresh flavors evaporate first.

Pay attention! Directly after applying the perfume, you will probably immediately feel the light, bright essences of fruits, fragrant plants, herbs or flowers. Like the first bars of a symphony, these top notes help capture the mood conveyed by the perfume: sharp, fruity, fresh, sweet, musky and other aromas. The top note of the perfume lasts no more than a minute. Middle notes begin to emerge as the perfume reacts to body heat and the natural oils on the surface of the skin. When the middle note, or heart, of a perfume emerges, one can smell softer scents of flowers, woods, and "modern accords." Middle notes “sound” from thirty minutes to an hour. Bottom notes, sometimes also called base notes or dry residue, are the stage when a perfume blends most harmoniously with the chemical characteristics of your body's skin. Aromatic spices, resins, mosses and animal scents such as amber resin and musk are characteristic bottom notes. The bottom note lasts from two to six hours, depending on the degree of presence of pure essence in the perfume, as well as on a number of other factors.

Interestingly, not all perfumes have top, middle and bottom notes, or layers. Some of them only have one layer. Consequently, they will change very little because all or almost all of the components will evaporate at the same time.

Now it's time to apply a little more of your favorite perfume to your skin. But now spray some perfume on your left wrist and you can compare the top notes of your perfume with its core. Remember to smell the “dry” right wrist first, and then the “wet” left one. Otherwise, you won't be able to perceive the very subtle differences between the two layers. Then, after 30 - 60 minutes, you can compare all three layers of your perfume. Spray your left wrist again and quickly compare the scent to the bottom note of the perfume on your right wrist. Wait a few minutes to allow the middle note to emerge, and then feel how the core of your perfume differs from its base.

Sweet floral, heady and rich oriental aromas are ideal for the evening. The more sophisticated you dress, the more elegant and complex your perfume should be. Nothing emphasizes solemnity better evening dress like perfume. But why do we like some perfumes and not others?

Experts believe that habit plays a big role here: we are more pleased with aromas that we have already smelled before, perhaps under some favorable circumstances. The attractiveness of perfumes, of course, greatly depends on how they are presented to the buyer. Perfume, and this is quite understandable, is one of the most difficult products to promote on the market, because it is difficult to convey the entire complex range of sensations from aromas with ordinary words or pictures. It is impossible to describe, at least sufficiently, how this or that perfume smells. But even if this were possible, a person should still try the perfume.

However, a creative approach to marketing allows you to introduce perfumes to potential consumers. Let's take names, for example. One of the latest marketing trends is to name perfumes after famous people. Of course, this does not mean that you will definitely like a perfume named after your idol, but for many there is something alluring, even romantic, about it.

Often perfume names are accompanied by a catchy and memorable advertising phrase, for example: "Genji"... "extend this moment", or an image, the type of person who might like them, such as "Acapella". ")... "your unique style."

Another important aspect is the design. In many ways, the bottle and packaging mean as much as its contents and name. In short, perfume is not just a scent, it is an image - appearance, style, image and mood. The more you wear perfume, the more you will understand how much it influences your life. This is what the art of perfumery does.

How to use perfume

● It is best to use perfume before getting dressed so that you can apply your favorite scent to a larger surface area of the skin. This way you will be enveloped in a whole cloud of aroma. (Plus, it won't leave stains on your clothes.) If you want your perfume to last longer, apply it to damp skin. Spirits don't evaporate as quickly when they have something to "hold on to." Use bath products scented with your perfume. They will not only serve as an excellent background for your perfume, but will also provide better cleansing and moisturizing of the skin due to their composition.

● Never apply perfume to your skin with the stopper of the bottle - sebum may remain on it. In a closed bottle it will mix with the perfume and disrupt the complex composition of the perfume. This is one of the reasons why spray packs are produced.

● Keep scented talcum powder and powder powder in your laundry drawer. This way the aroma will gradually transfer to your things. Perfume evaporates faster from dry skin - this is another reason to use moisturizers after a bath, especially if you have dry skin type.

● Food affects the sense of smell. Therefore, it is better to try applying a new perfume before a meal rather than after, especially if you are going to try a spicy dish.

● The aroma rises, not falls. If you want to smell your perfume, don't just apply it behind your earlobes.

● Avoid wearing perfume when going to the beach. They may increase skin photosensitivity.

● Store unwrapped scented soap in your linen closet to keep both towels and sheets scented.

● Since the points where the pulse is felt - the throat, wrist, elbows, knees and ankles - are warmer than other areas of the body, perfume applied to these areas “wake up” faster.

● You cannot judge the smell of perfume by the aroma emanating from another person. No two people have the same skin chemistry.

● If the situation calls for just a hint of perfume, take a scented bath or use a scented body lotion, cream or mousse.

● Store perfume that you rarely use in the refrigerator. This way he will not lose his qualities.

● When you run out of perfume, don't throw away the empty bottle. Place the opened bottle in your closet and the stopper in your laundry drawer to add a fragrant scent to your clothes.

● Since different foods evaporate at different rates, applying multiple layers increases the depth and strength of the aroma. This is a step-by-step process. The first layer is applied when you wash - use scented soap, scented bath products or shower gel. The second layer is applied when you use a moisturizing composition - lotion, gel or mousse for the body, scented with the same perfume. The third layer is liquid - this is cologne or perfume. And finally, for even greater effect, use scented talc and mousse.

● Storing perfumes where they are exposed to direct sunlight or near a heat source will cause them to degrade quickly. It is better to store them in a cool place, away from the window.

● Always close the perfume bottle tightly to prevent it from evaporating. Even aerosol bottles should be properly capped after each use.

● Sample bottles are ideal for travel. These small bottles contain enough perfume for several uses.

● Are you having trouble falling asleep? Or are you so tired that you are unable to work? According to aromatherapists, help is close - it is at “the tip of your nose.” The aromas of jasmine, marigold and hyacinth are said to be soothing, while the essence of peppermint, grapefruit, peach, cinnamon and sandalwood is said to be invigorating.

● When the weather changes, so do the scents of perfume. Perfume smells much stronger in the hot, humid summer months than in cold weather.

● If you use unscented hair styling products, spritz your brush with eau de toilette to add a light scent to your hair.

● Try no more than two or three types of perfume at a time. Otherwise they will all seem the same to you.

● The drier the climate, the faster perfume evaporates. Especially during the winter months, you can increase the longevity of your scent by applying a moisturizer first. Even better if it is scented with the same composition as your eau de toilette.

● During extreme heat, perfumes and eau de parfum smell stronger than usual. If a strong scent is not an option, use bath products instead of eau de parfum or perfume.

● Just because you can't smell your perfume doesn't mean others can't smell it. Maybe you're just used to them. Therefore, if you apply eau de toilette more than once or twice a day, it is quite possible that you may be overdoing it. Ask someone else close to you if the aroma of your perfume is too intense.

● Don't save up perfume for future use. They don't last forever.

● Keep a small aerosol bottle of perfume in your briefcase or purse so you can use it throughout the day.

Perfume and sense of proportion

A scent that is too strong may be inappropriate in many situations. Here are some tips to help you avoid such complications:

● Perfume is a great way to highlight your business style, provided that it is not the main thing that will be noticed about you. Most types of perfumes and eau de toilette have too strong an aroma for a work environment. Intense oriental and animalistic perfumes are also not suitable for the job, especially those that have a strong aroma of patchouli, musk or sandalwood. Sweet floral perfumes can also be too heavy. If you really prefer these particular scents, apply a small amount of eau de toilette or perfume, or use scented bath products or other aromatic products (powders, mousses, etc.) after your shower in the morning and at night.

● Smell and taste are very closely related. Generally speaking, if you don’t smell, then you don’t feel the full range of taste sensations. The very strong aroma also affects the sense of taste. Therefore, if you use a very strong perfume before dinner, it can ruin the pleasure of the food served not only for you, but also for those around you.

● Tight spaces require lighter odors, especially on an airplane or car. Fresh, light floral and plant aromas will be your good travel companions on the road.

● After playing sports, be sure to take a bath or shower first, and only then apply perfume.

● If you plan to spend time by the pool or on the beach, do not wear perfume. Perfume and beads of sweat appearing on the skin are incompatible. But more importantly, when wearing perfume, direct sunlight can cause sunburn or increase photosensitive reactions.

Perfume is an essential element of every woman's look. Modern girls prefer to have several types of them at once. Various scents, which can be sweet or delicate, floral or oriental, as well as completely unique and surprising, complement and perfect the image.

However, it is important to know how to choose perfume, which must meet certain requirements and conditions. When choosing, you should focus on certain factors.

Choosing perfumes according to age

The scent that comes from a woman should suit her age very well. The fact is that floral and light scents are completely unsuitable for a mature businesswoman, but spicy and bright scents will be most preferable for her.

With the help of a wise choice, you can even hide your age, which is why many middle-aged women become younger and brighter due to their unique aroma.

How to choose perfume depending on age? To do this, use the following recommendations:

What event are you planning?

Almost every modern girl has a huge number of fragrances in her collection. Some of them are intended for everyday and everyday use, while others will be relevant and suitable for any grandiose and social event.

Therefore, it is important to know which smells will be suitable for a certain event taking place in life. In this case, it will be possible to create an optimal image and stand out among the crowd. A variety of notes can even create the appropriate mood, and this is especially important if you need to go on a date or attend a social party. Incorrectly selected scents can cause a ruined evening.

Choose according to your mood

Every woman's mood can be different on a given day. For each you need to choose the optimal notes that will improve your well-being. They will not allow aggression, anger and irritability to appear.

The right perfume can even reduce stress, so it is important to choose it wisely to suit your mood.

When choosing perfume, base it on your style

All women are different from each other, not only in appearance, age or profession, but also in the style that they have created for themselves. It is important to focus on it when choosing any fragrance. Only then will the image be complete and complete, and this is considered very important.

Classic notes will not be suitable for those who prefer a boyish style - in this case, it is recommended to choose brighter and more challenging aromas. For a strict look, floral scents are completely contraindicated, but classics will be the ideal choice.

Quality is the last but important criterion

There are a huge number of perfume manufacturers, among which there are those who offer high-quality products, but there are also those that may have low parameters. How to choose the right perfume so that it is good and has positive properties? To do this, it is important to know some recommendations so as not to make a mistake with the purchase.

If you come across a fake, the aroma will not last very well, and you will be able to detect the smell of alcohol. Distortion is also a constant companion of cheap and low-quality goods. Tips for choosing a quality perfume:

  1. Purchases should be made only in reliable and trusted stores who value their reputation and offer quality products.
  2. The packaging must contain all the necessary information, which includes the category of perfume, its purpose and volume, as well as composition. Additionally, there must be a barcode on the basis of which the necessary data can be obtained. The date and place of production are indispensable elements on the packaging.
  3. Before purchasing you should very carefully examine not only the packaging, but also the bottle itself and its contents. The smell should be pleasant and persistent, there should be no foreign inclusions.

At making the right choice you can get eau de toilette that is of high quality, long lasting and ideal for a particular woman.

First you need to decide what time of year you are looking for a new scent. For winter, a rich perfume with bright notes is more suitable, and in summer you should give preference to weightless, fresh perfumes.

Secondly, it is best to buy perfume in a good perfume salon, and not in the market or in small stalls. As a rule, specialized perfume stores offer a large selection of fragrances from all famous world manufacturers. In addition, if necessary, you can ask for advice from a sales consultant. Perhaps he will direct you to the right stand.

Thirdly, when choosing perfume, you should pay attention to the markings on the bottle. If you see the inscription Parfum, you have in your hands a real long-lasting perfume consisting of several notes. If the bottle says Eau de Parfum, it means “perfumed water.” As is known, eau de parfum or “ toilet perfume» have less durability, but are much cheaper. Eau de Toilette means “eau de toilette” and its cost is much lower than perfume.

Action plan in the perfume department

Don't try a huge number of scents at once. Women's perfumery is diverse and rich, so after smelling a couple of aromas, you will no longer feel the difference between them. Don’t believe that the smell of coffee beans will allow you to completely restore your sense of smell in a matter of seconds. This takes some time. If you can’t immediately find what you’re looking for, it’s better to leave the store and come back the next day, or at least walk down the street for a few hours.

It is important to try all the perfumes on the skin, since each person has a different scent. This is due to the individual odor of the human body.

Most fragrances have "multiple layers" so don't smell them immediately after application. Let the perfume develop. It is not recommended to choose perfume based on the first noticeable note. It quickly disappears. True connoisseurs choose perfumes according to the “heart note”. It is this aroma that will create a fragrant trail around you. People around will feel it.

In addition, you should not look for the only “right” perfume. Collect a whole collection of scents and apply them depending on your mood. Some people also prefer to choose light scents for everyday use, and powdery or sweet ones for going out.

Perfume can simultaneously be a means of self-expression, pleasure, seduction, and sometimes disgust. The perception of smells is extremely individual. As a rule, we choose our favorite scent, guided not by logic, but by intuition, so perfume can be considered a kind of calling card of our hidden self. How to choose a perfume for yourself among thousands of beautiful bottles? How not to get lost in the intoxicating and intoxicating kingdom of aromas?

I can easily find you by smell...

Selecting perfume is an art and not every woman knows how to use it. From a physical and chemical point of view, perfume consists of alcohol and perfume composition, but in fact they are woven from our feelings, emotions and desires. And we use perfume not only to smell good, but to create a certain aura. You've probably noticed how a change in mood and state of mind entails a change in aroma, and what was relevant yesterday, making your heart flutter, today irritates or simply does not evoke absolutely no emotions. The great Coco Chanel called perfume an invisible, but unforgettable and unsurpassed accessory that notifies others about the appearance of a woman, and after her departure continues to remind her. She said that perfume is the same as clothes. As if to confirm her words, Marilyn Monroe, when asked what she wears at night, ironically replied: “Just a little Chanel No. 5” 🙂 Really, is anything else needed?

How to choose a perfume scent for your loved one

There is something magical and magical about choosing a personal scent, because, in essence, we choose ourselves or how we want to appear. True, only if we really focus on the contents of the bottle, and not on its shape, packaging or brand. According to Edmond Rudnicka, creator of such perfume bestsellers as Diorissimo, Femme and Eau Sauvage, there are no women who don’t like perfume, there are only women who have not been able to find their scent. Are you still among them? Then it’s time to go in search of your scent, and we will help you with this.

Where and when to buy perfume?

  • It is best to choose perfume in the first half of the day. It is in the morning that our olfactory receptors are most sensitive, and in the evening our sense of smell becomes dull.
  • The menstrual cycle also has a very specific effect on the perception of odors. The ideal period for choosing and purchasing perfume is a few days before the start of your period. But during critical days, the ability to perceive aromas noticeably decreases.
  • On the day of your trip for the treasured bottle, try not to use perfumes, deodorants, eau de toilette and other products with pronounced aromas, so as not to be distracted by foreign odors during the selection process.
  • The best place to buy perfume - a small boutique with a good reputation, in no case a market or an underground passage. Experts recommend sniffing no more than three or four aromas at a time, since our olfactory receptors quickly get tired, lose sensitivity, and you will not be able to catch and reliably feel all the nuances and notes of the composition. A good perfume store will definitely offer you jars of coffee beans or cocoa beans, the aroma of which you need to inhale between perfume samples. This restores the nose's sensitivity to odors. Don't try to cover the entire range at once. If you still don’t like anything from the limit you tried, it’s better to come back the next day.

Top notes, base, aftertaste...

It is customary to distinguish three main levels of manifestation of the smell of perfume: initial, main or middle and residual. When we open the bottle, we immediately notice the sharp, concentrated scent of the base. It is impossible to judge a perfume solely by the smell emanating from the bottle or by the aroma of the inside of the cap, since the real bouquet of perfume begins to unfold no earlier than 15-20 minutes after application to the skin. It is this aroma that is the main one and determines the general character of the perfume. It is felt, depending on the durability of the perfume, for 20-25 hours, after which its strength begins to weaken and over the next 10-15 hours only a residual aroma is noticeable. It is recommended to buy perfume only if you like the scent at all three stages.

How many options can you try per day?

You should not apply all the scents that interest you to your skin. To get a first impression of the smell, it is advisable to first use special paper test strips. Drop a little perfume or spray the scent onto the strip and wait a couple of seconds. You need to sniff the sample from a distance of two to three centimeters. If you like the scent, continue the experiment and apply a drop of perfume to your wrist or elbow. After five to ten minutes, you can inhale the aroma and check how well it matches the smell of your skin. Even if you really like the aroma, it is better to hold off on buying perfume. They won't get away from you! We take a fragrant strip with us, and leave the perfume on the skin at least until the evening, and preferably until the next morning. Throughout the day, we periodically sniff the sample and the tested area of skin to catch how the aroma opens and changes. As professor-perfumer Roger Dove said, choosing a fragrance is similar to choosing a lover - to find out whether you really suit each other, you must spend the night with him :) If the results of the experiment do not disappoint you, the next day you can safely go to the store and buy the one you like bottle.

It is only yours - a personal perfume

The choice of personal scent is purely individual, but if it is too difficult for you, you can take the advice of psychologists: young girls are best suited for fresh, light, invigorating fruity scents, as well as unisex scents; open, bold, cheerful, energetic and optimistic natures are best complemented by fresh citrus and floral aromas; for mysterious, secretive women who value inner harmony and peace, refined and mysterious oriental shades of fragrances are ideal; For sensitive, changeable, dreamy and romantic people, it is better to choose aldehyde-floral scents.

How to use perfume correctly

It is important not only to be able to find your own individual scent that will become your “second skin” among thousands of perfume compositions and seductive bottles, but also to know how to use it correctly.

Many people keep perfume in the bathroom, mistakenly believing that is where it belongs. In fact, high air humidity, heat and light are extremely harmful to perfume, so it must be stored in a cool, dark place, for example, in the bedroom in a dresser drawer or nightstand.

Perfume should be applied to clean, dry skin, to areas where the skin is most delicate and thin - in these places blue veins are visible through it and the pulse is felt: on the wrists, on the elbows, behind the earlobes, under the chest, under the knees, in the hollow neck. You can also apply a drop of perfume into the dimple right above your upper lip so that people approaching you will feel a wonderful aroma and fragrant breath. You can perfume your hair a little, but you shouldn’t get too carried away with scenting your clothes - the aroma is fully revealed only on the skin, and besides, perfume stains may remain on your clothes.

If you like to be the center of attention, you can follow the advice of Estée Lauder, who was sure that perfume, like love, cannot be skimped on - scatter the perfume in the air in front of you and step into the resulting cloud of aroma. But Coco Chanel advised applying perfume where you would like to be kissed.
