How to make a watermark in Photoshop: a guide for working with photos prepared for the Web.
There are different ways to apply a watermark. I'll tell you how I do it. Before posting a photo on the Internet, I prepare a copy of it measuring 400x600 pixels.

Let's create a new file for the web in Photoshop, sized 640x480 pixels with a transparent background.
Let's take the Horizontal Type Tool.
In the top menu, select the appropriate font. In my case, this is the font used for the blog title.
I'll use the Times New Romans font. Let's make the font color white.
In the layers window, click on the indicated icon and create a new layer.

Now in the layers window, click on the indicated icon (Layer Style). Select the Embossing option from the list. You can play with the settings or leave the default values.

Then in the layers window, reduce the saturation of the layer. To do this, adjust the Opacity and Fill parameters.
The inscription will become transparent, almost invisible.

Open the image you want to watermark in Photoshop. I'll show you how to apply a watermark to a photo of my son.
Go to File-Place and select our saved watermark. The inscription along with the transformation frame will appear in the center of the image:
Now you can change the size of the inscription. In order for it to change proportionally in size, press and hold Shift while dragging the corner of the transformation frame.
In addition, using the transformation frame, you can rotate the inscription and place it vertically or diagonally.

In the top menu, select Layers - Flatten. Then save the image, File-Save.

Go to the Underlay dialog box. How you open this dialog box depends on the version of Word you have. Word 2002 and 2003 use menu bars and toolbars, while Word 2007 and later use tabs.
- In Word 2002 and 2003, you can open the Watermark dialog box by choosing Background from the Format menu, and then choosing Watermark.
- In Word 2007 and later, click the Page Layout tab. Find the "Page Background" group and click the "Watermark" button. At the bottom of the underlay gallery, select Custom Underlay.
Select the type of background you want to create. The background can be a picture (graphics) or text.
- To make a text background, select the "Text" option. In the Text box, enter your background text (or choose one of the suggested options), then select a font, size, and color for the text in the Font, Size, and Color boxes. If you want to make an opaque watermark (background), uncheck the "Translucent" checkbox; if not, leave this checkbox and your watermark text will be semi-transparent. Choose a diagonal or horizontal layout depending on how you want the background text to be positioned.
- To create a graphic watermark, select the Drawing option. Click "Select Picture" to open a window in which you can navigate to the desired picture file. Select the desired picture and click "Insert". Select one of the options in the "Scale" field to set the size of the picture; Select Automatic to display the drawing at the most appropriate size. If you want the drawing to be displayed clearly, uncheck the "Discolor" checkbox; if not, leave it, then your watermark design will appear faded.
Click OK to close the Underlay dialog box. Your document will now have a watermark.
Set the order in which the matte appears. If the background is text, use WordArt commands. If it's a drawing, use the graphics commands.
- In Word 2002 and 2003, WordArt commands and picture commands are found on the Format menu. In Word 2007, these options can be found on the Insert tab, WordArt in the Text group, and pictures in the Illustrations group.
Determine which pages the watermark (watermark) will appear on. Although it does not appear there, the watermark is treated as part of the header. - Let's not forget about the banal brand promotion. People who copy your content distribute it to all mental and non-mental sources. And the constant flashing of a brand leaves a certain trace in the memory, which will later serve benefits, including commercial success.
- If the photo content is quite specific, as, for example, on this site, where I post educational screenshots so that discourage competitors from copying content, a watermark helps with this like nothing else. Actually, competitors are unlikely to want to build their own similar site with pictures that contain a direct link to my project. Even if they do, I won't be upset because, as stated in point 2, this is an advertisement and an additional source of targeted traffic.
How to make a watermark
First, decide what it will be: a logo, a link, a word or something else. For example, on my website I use a link stylized as the main site logo as a watermark. If the picture flickers somewhere, then the interested user knows how to find the original source.
The watermark needs to be small. It's better to stick to your own style. In my opinion, a sign of quality is stability, so you shouldn’t pull the sign in different places on each photo. It’s better to always let it be the same place. IMHO.
Make the sign translucent and dim the brightness of the colors. It should not be flashy or catch your eye. What's important in an image is the content itself, not your eye-watering watermark.
Using the tips above, let's first make a sketch.

It is assumed that you already have a blank from which you intend to make a watermark.
As a result, you should have two layers on your palette with the main image and the image/text you just added.
After that, set the desired size of the watermark so that it is not too small or large.
To do this, make sure that the image with the logo is selected (as in the screenshot above - the selected layer is marked in blue), select the Ctrl+T tool. A bounding box will appear around the unfinished watermark. Move it around the corners to reduce/enlarge the picture.
To change the picture proportionally, hold down the key Shift, when pulling the corners.
When finished with the size, press the Enter key or the checkmark button on the tool.
Now you need to move the watermark to an inconspicuous place. The classic option is the lower right corner.
Since we now have the task of getting rid of a lot of tedious work, using an action is ideal for this.
This action will work like this:
Open the photo in Photoshop and click play on the action with the watermark. We repeat these steps for each photo.
There is nothing complicated here, the main thing is that there are as few actions as possible and that they are all clear and understandable to the program.
Step 1
We will create the action on a previously opened photo. Therefore, select and open any one in Photoshop.
Step 2
I'm looking at an example on my pre-made logo. This file must be saved on your computer. Choose a folder where it will lie. This location can no longer be changed/renamed, including other folders preceding the final one. Simply put, by placing a picture, for example, along this path: “C:\Users\Username\Desktop\Pictures\logo.png”, none of the folders can no longer be renamed, moved, etc. Otherwise the action will stop working.
Step 3 Open the palette.
Open the palette with actions/operations: Window - Operations or keys Alt+F9.

Create a new folder for your actions. Click on the third button from the right. A window will appear in which you can come up with a name for the folder.
Now let's create a new operation. Click on the second button from the right Creates a new operation. Give her a name.

First of all, we execute the command to open the image with the future watermark: File - Open or Ctrl+O . Next, find the picture on your computer.
The picture should open in a new independent tab ().
Step 5
The next task is to copy the logo and transfer it to the original photo.
To do this, press Ctrl+A. We have made a complete selection of the contents of the picture, “marching ants” should appear around the perimeter.
Let's make a copy Ctrl+C . So the picture was copied to the clipboard.
Go to the previous tab with the open photo and paste the copied logo there - Ctrl + V.

Just drag the logo to the desired location it is forbidden. Photoshop may remember the coordinates, but when you open photos of other sizes, the watermark may end up almost in the middle of the photo. This is bullshit. You need to make sure that Photoshop always determines where the edges of the photo are and aligns the logo relative to their location.
To do this, select the layer with the photo itself in the layers palette and press Ctrl+A to select it all.
So we've just pressed the watermark into the very bottom right corner. But it's not pretty so close to the edges. You need to make small indentations from the edges.
To do this, with the selected tool Moving, holding down the Shift key, click once on the left and top arrows on the keyboard. The image will shift by 10 pixels in the specified directions. If there is a lot of this, click on the arrows without Shift, then the shift will be 1 pixel.
The final chord is to change the opacity of the logo in the layers palette. I set it to 60%.
Step 8
Close the logo tab that was created in step 4. She should be the second in a row.
To do this, you MUST first click on this tab so that it becomes active (the active tab is highlighted in a brighter color), then click on the cross. Otherwise, Photoshop will record the closing of our main photo tab in the action.

Functionality check

1. Install and activate the Easy Watermark plugin.

General settings
This tab contains general plugin settings. I don’t see any point in talking about all the settings of this tab, since the plugin is almost completely Russified. I will only write about what I I recommend you change.
- Check the box "Backup". After enabling this function, all originals of uploaded images(without watermarks) will be saved in a separate folder, and they can be restore. A very useful thing.
- IN "Image Sizes" I recommend leaving only "Fullsize". This means that the watermarks will be displayed only on the original image(full size), and not on thumbnails, etc. This way, watermarks will not be constantly visible in front of your eyes, and the large image size will be protected.

This plugin also works great with online store WooCommerce. Enabling watermarks in your store is easy! To do this, on the tab "Are common", in the settings block "Post Types" check the box "Goods".
Important! The WooCommerce plugin must be activated, otherwise this item simply will not appear in the settings.
Restoration and mass application of watermarks
You can restore the original images (if saving them is enabled in the settings) as well as mass-apply watermarks to all previously downloaded images by going to Media files -> Easy Watermark.

I've tried a bunch of programs for installing watermarks and this one is the most convenient and fastest.

Although I have to admit, they look nice. But is this really the point?
Large sites, such as Shutterstock, have their own secure servers and their own plugins Watermark, so they don't have similar problems.
Thus, I settled on the first option, where Watermark. This is done not very beautifully, but reliably, by the program Watermark Reloaded.
The main thing is not to overdo it. Remember that it only makes sense to truly protect large and valuable images. It is enough to equip small previews with an inscription in the corner.
