How to take a beautiful picture of a girl. How to pose correctly for a photo shoot

If you believe the statistics, about 90% of girls consider themselves unphotogenic, do not know how to be photographed correctly, how to look good in photographs, therefore they do not like themselves in photographs and are like hell afraid to pose in front of the camera. At the same time, real professionals who are fluent in the art of photography know for sure that there are no non-photogenic people, there are only “photographers” who do not know how to capture and convey the individuality of a model.

Common misconceptions about photogenicity

“Oh, you know, I’m not photogenic at all!” – this phrase, immediately following the greeting “hello”, is heard by photographers from 4 out of 5 clients. Photogenicity and beauty are far from identical concepts. People with sharp, expressive facial features, as a rule, are exceptionally photogenic, but in real life they can look rough and even unattractive. From a psychological point of view, the success of a shoot largely depends on the emotional message, self-confidence and ability to present oneself. When a model loves herself and enjoys the shooting process, she relaxes, every gesture and movement takes on meaning, looks organic, and everything in the frame turns out just great. And little make-up tricks, the right selection of hairstyles, clothes, and most importantly, good angles and light and shade will help add expressiveness. By the way, even top models prefer to be photographed from only two or three good angles, so if in some position you don’t look very attractive, don’t rush to get upset - there will certainly be a pose for you.

A real photographer is not just a master of his craft, communicating with the camera on a first-name basis, but also a good psychologist who knows how to find an approach to people and shows genuine interest in the most ordinary model. The result of his work is successful, beautiful, and most importantly, meaningful photographs that reflect not only the appearance, but also the inner world of a person. You don't get tired of these photos. You can look at them and look at them, every now and then discovering new facets. When we hear the names of Che Guevara, Ernest Hemingway or Albert Einstein, their most famous photographic portraits immediately appear before our eyes: Che in the famous black beret with a star, Hemingway in a white woolen sweater, Einstein with his tongue hanging out. During their lifetime, they were captured by cameras hundreds of times, but we remember them precisely from these single photographs, in which the presence of spirit is felt. The complete opposite of these masterpieces is the photo on the documents. Frightened, distorted, suspicious individuals look at us from passports, driver's licenses, and student ID cards. And all because of the lack of contact between the photographer and the model, and sometimes even the absence of the photographer himself, because it is no secret that often such formulaic work is performed by people who are far from the high art of photography.

Let's remain ourselves

Hearing the words “Ready! Now the bird will fly out. Cheeeez..." and other similar nonsense, many seem to be replaced: they freeze in an absurd pose, with an unusual facial expression and a false smile. You can't expect miracles from such a photo. And you just need to remain yourself. Not only a smile can be beautiful and interesting, but also sadness, thoughtfulness, and even recklessness. But only if these emotions are not feigned, but come from within. Naturalness does not exclude playfulness. Play in front of the camera, because you can be so different! Play with elements of clothing, accessories, hair, shyly cover yourself with your hands, imitate walking on a thin rail, play hide and seek, imagine yourself in the form of some animal... loosen up and give free rein to your emotions! A good photographer will definitely catch what he needs. Don't forget that a photograph is only interesting when it has emotion, action and story.

Photo makeup

  • Less shine. To avoid getting a smudge instead of a high-quality photo, the makeup for shooting should be without shine, matte. You simply can’t do without powder with a mattifying effect! Even if your skin is not oily, it may appear shiny in the photo. A little gloss can be applied only to the middle of the lips to make them fuller. But only a little! You don’t want a photo in which nothing else is visible except your lips. Avoid nail polish with glitter, which will turn into ordinary “dandruff” in the photo.
  • We give the face a “sculptural” appearance. To prevent the face from appearing flat and featureless in the photograph, it must be made more expressive and prominent. To do this, use a matte brown-beige blush or dark powder to slightly darken the cheekbones, emphasize the jawline and highlight the wings of the nose.
  • You can visually shorten a long nose by darkening its tip using neutral-toned blush or dark powder. And by shading the cheeks, you can visually narrow a face that is too wide.
  • Avoid colors that are too dark, bright or toxic. In a photograph, any unnatural shades will look even more unnatural.
  • Photography in daylight is the most merciless: the camera will catch all skin imperfections and errors in the use of cosmetics. Therefore, it is better to keep makeup to a minimum, carefully masking all problem areas with concealer. It is advisable to use a palette of warm shades and thoroughly shade the boundaries of applying cosmetics.
  • For black and white photography and evening photography, it is important to further emphasize the contours of the face: forehead, cheekbones, nose, chin. Be sure to highlight your eyes and eyebrows, but it’s better to avoid dark shades of lipstick. In a black and white photo they will make the lips look black and narrow.
  • Digital photography enhances the pink color. A foundation or powder in yellowish shades will help neutralize possible redness.

Outdoor photo shoot

It is better to take photos on the street before 9 am or after 5 pm. A cloudy day is good for a successful portrait. On a sunny day, you should not stand facing directly towards the scorching sun. You should be especially careful when photographing in the shade of trees - the sun's rays penetrate even through a very dense crown, casting uneven shadows on your face. When photographing with a hat on, choose a position in which the shadow from the brim of the hat or cap visor does not fall on your face.

Proper work with a photographer

If you decide to have a photo shoot, trust the photographer completely. Listen to everything he tells you, listen and strictly follow all his instructions - unlike you, he sees how the shot turns out. If he is silent as a fish and doesn’t help you in any way, most likely you made a mistake in choosing a photographer and you can’t expect anything good from such a shoot. The process should be mutually interesting.

Keep in mind that everything in front of the lens needs to be done slowly, so if you are asked to turn your head towards the light, do it at a snail's pace. If you hear the command “Freeze,” freeze until you hear “That’s it.”

Trust, but do not allow images that are uncomfortable for you to be imposed on you. The final decision should always be yours.

Good poses for photos

  • The most advantageous position, which works great for almost everyone, is the half-turn. This is just a godsend for those with round or large faces with chubby cheeks.
  • In group photographs, it is better for ladies with a larger body to sit not in the center, but on the side, so they will look slimmer.
  • Control your hands. They should not hang like whips. It is best to slightly bend your elbows, pick up something in your hands, or lean on some object.

Our photo selection will also help you “try on” various poses:

The main commandment of smartphone photography: it doesn’t matter how cool the camera is, what matters is who’s holding it. And with the most luxurious DSLR you can take clear, but boring photographs. The kind that lie on disk and no one opens them for years.

And you can take interesting photos with your smartphone, especially since this equipment is always with you, you don’t have to uncover it for a long time and you won’t forget to remove the lens cap. And for the most part, smartphones are cheaper than DSLRs, which is also very pleasing.

website I’ve put together some tips for you on how to take cool photos using your smartphone.

Programs

© (c) iphonegrapher_hiro

A camera in a smartphone is, first of all, a program that maintains the lens and matrix. Therefore, you should not stop at what Android or iOS dictates to you. You may want to use different programs for different shooting situations. Some give more interesting color rendition, others - slightly larger plans: Pudding Camera, CameraMX, Photosynth, VSCO Cam, Slow shutter cam, Pro HDR, Camera+, etc. Why limit yourself if you have a choice?

Having chosen a program, it’s worth delving into the settings. Set the image resolution to high, remember that in difficult cases you can play with white balance, ISO and turn off autofocus. And in general, find out what interesting things a specific program can do.

Zoom

Cropping as a replacement for zoom.

It’s better to forget once and for all that your smartphone has digital zoom. Such an increase in most cases is achieved by serious losses in image quality. The best zoom is the legs: come closer, move further away.

If this is not possible, then it is wiser to cut out the frame you need from a large photograph during post-processing. The cropping function is available even in the simplest programs. Plus, you don’t waste time adjusting the size, you just take it off. And already in a calm environment, you correctly compose the frame, without missing details that you could accidentally crop out while using the zoom in the field.

Series

Take several shots of the same scene. Subsequently, you can choose the most successful photo and work with it. And before deleting photos from your smartphone, it’s a good idea to view them on your computer, since on a small phone screen you may not notice good photos just because they seem overexposed or underexposed.

If it doesn’t turn out interesting, you should change the shooting angle.

When photographing something or someone, don't be afraid to change angles. You can take a photo head-on, or you can change the angle a little and get an interesting shot. Moreover, the compact size of the smartphone allows you to take angles for which a photographer with a large camera will have to work hard.

Light

The flash on a smartphone should be used very carefully. As a rule, it “deads” the photo, distorts colors and shadows. Flash is only good when you need to take pictures immediately, otherwise you'll miss the moment.

At the same time, light is the photographer's main tool. This is important for professional cameras, but for smartphones it is much more important. Therefore, always look for the light, pay close attention to how it falls on the subject, and you will get the shot.

Good light in the morning and evening. On a sunny afternoon, you will have to work with too high a contrast, which threatens with artifacts in the pictures. The pre-storm sky gives luxurious effects.

Object shooting

On the left is a photo with a lack of lighting, on the right is with a flashlight.

If you want to take a photo of something or someone at home, the smartphone can become stubborn - there is rarely enough light in the room. But you can take a simple LED flashlight and a sheet of white paper to compensate for the too harsh shadow. Let's say a flashlight is shining from above on the right, we bring a sheet of white paper to the left, which reflects the light of the flashlight and additionally illuminates the object, and press the button on the phone.

Lens Cleanliness

Frame through a fingerprint.

It would seem that an obvious thing is the cleanliness of the lens, but smartphone lovers often come across this issue. The phone is used constantly, lies in your pocket, and when you take it to answer a call or SMS, the last thing you remember is that you left a fingerprint on the glass of the lens. When shooting, this print gives, of course, a slight mysterious blur, but, as a rule, this is the effect you do not expect in the intended photo.

Response delay

It is important to take into account the fact that the shooting program in a smartphone in most cases operates with a delay. You have already pressed the button, but the camera is still thinking before taking a photo. Therefore, it is important to think proactively, like a hunter who shoots not at a hare, but at the place where, according to his assumption, the hare will be at the next moment.

Let's say you are photographing a flower in a field, and it is windy on that day, you need to take into account the speed of the camera and at the same time capture the moment between gusts of wind. It’s difficult, but the result will be more valuable due to the effort spent.

Post-processing programs

Simplest editing on Instagram.

Most professional photographers do post-processing of photographs, absolutely always in commercial photography, but for smartphone photography this is a vital necessity. You cannot adjust the shutter speed and aperture on a smartphone. This limitation is compensated for by a variety of post-processing programs. This is beyond the well-known Instagram and Flickr.

How to stand up, sit down, lie down, how to turn your head? We are confident that our selection will help you have a great photo shoot and get a decent result that will suit both the model and the photographer.

1. Let's start with a simple portrait pose. The model should look over her shoulder. Pay attention to what an unusual and interesting portrait you can get if you photograph a girl in the same pose, but from a different angle.

2. In a portrait, hands are usually not visible, at least they do not dominate. You can create an interesting photo by asking your subject to play with different hand positions around the face.

3. You may be familiar with the rule of thirds. A similar result can be achieved using diagonals. Also remember that you don't have to keep the camera straight all the time; tilting it can give you a new, interesting angle.

4. A nice photo will work if the model sits with her knees together. It's better to take pictures a little from above.

5. A sincere and attractive pose as the model lies on the ground. Get down on the ground nearby and take pictures from this level.

6. One of the variations of the previous pose - the model lies on her stomach, resting her hands on the ground. It looks very cool if the photo is taken in a field, among meadow flowers.

7. Surprisingly simple, but absolutely stunning and winning pose - the model lies on her back. Take photos from ground level, moving around the model. Ask her to sometimes change her facial expression, the position of her head and hands.

8. Another simple pose that is perfect for girls with any body type. Ask the model to change the positions of her arms and legs, focusing on the eyes.

9. Playful and cute pose. Looks great if the model lies on almost any surface: bed, grass, sandy beach. Shoot at a slight angle, focusing on the eyes.

10. Proud and simple pose. The model is sitting on the ground. The pose emphasizes posture and slim profile.

11. The model is sitting on the ground. This pose is sincere and open. Try taking photos from different angles.

12. A great pose to showcase the beauty of the model's physique. Looks great if the silhouette stands out against a bright background.

13. Relaxed pose. Ask your model to experiment with hand positions, twists and turns.

14. Elegant pose. The model stands half sideways, with her hands in the back pockets of her trousers.

15. A seductive pose when the model stands slightly bent over. This pose allows you to subtly emphasize the model’s shape.

16. Sensual pose. It is good if the model has a fit, graceful figure. Hands above the head further elongate the figure, which allows you to demonstrate the relief.

17. When photographing a full-length model, a huge number of variations are possible. The pose in the illustration is just a starting point for many experiments. Ask the model to change the position of the body, arms, head and eyes.

18. Relaxed pose: the model leans against the wall. She can support herself with one leg or her arms. Try several options.

19. The principles of such full-length shots are simple: the body should be curved in the shape of the letter S, the arms should be relaxed, and the body weight should be transferred to one leg. Girls with toned figures look good in such photos.

20. An attractive pose for girls with a sporty figure. Experiment and find a body position in which the relief will look most attractive.

21. Romantic and tender pose. Using fabric draperies you can take very sensual photographs.

These are the basic poses that always look good. Please remember that the illustrations are only starting points. Each of these poses has many variations. Ask the model to change the position of her hands, head, body, and facial expression. Observe and look for the most advantageous angle for each girl. Shoot from different angles and in different lighting conditions. Be creative and your photos will turn out unique.

Unfortunately, not all people in the world are photogenic. In fact, most people need to work hard and hard on themselves to look good in a photo. If you feel like one of those people, and you feel like you need to take 10 shots to take one decent photo, then this information is for you.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you look great when you're being photographed. Read and try these tips to feel confident in front of the camera. So, let's begin:

1. If you are standing in one place, then under no circumstances put one hand under the other.

The best solution would be to casually cross your arms. Try placing your palms on opposite arms just above the elbow. Also, be mindful of your head position. She shouldn't be relaxed. Make sure that your chin is slightly raised and your neck is stretched upward. This little trick will make your facial features more refined. Most importantly, don’t forget to decorate your face with your unique smile. Happened? Great.

2. But the problem of “where to put your hands” is not solved!

And if casual crossing is not at all your option, then it’s worth remembering the most convenient trick - placing your palms on your waist. At the same time, you should make sure that this is not an aggressive “hands on hips” pose! Move your elbows to the side, relax your hands and straighten your fingers, showing off your manicure. But most importantly, when you get carried away, don’t dig your nails in or squeeze your waist—this will only add wrinkles to your body and clothes.

3. Never allow your arms to hang loosely along your body. If in life it looks natural, then in the frame it’s simply “untidy.”

In this case, let one hand be relaxed and lowered, and place the other on your waist, while tilting your head slightly to the side.

4. One of the most common mistakes is touching your cheek or chin with your hands.

This pose also needs to be rehearsed, otherwise the finished photographs will look like you had a toothache during filming. Do you want to make your image in the frame attractive and intriguing? Then touch your cheek or chin only with your fingertips and then as if by accident!

5. The next tip is very simple and pleasant because you will have to spend a lot of time in front of the mirror in order to determine the best angle for your profile.

Let's begin! Go to the mirror and turn your head left and right until you decide which reflection in the mirror you like best. To get great photos, always remember to turn your head to the best side of your face when taking pictures.

Of course, we know that the beauty of a photo depends to a large extent on the skill of the photographer, but there are some things we can help him with:

6. Don’t allow yourself to be photographed from above, otherwise your head will appear disproportionately larger in relation to your body in the photo.

The only exceptions are newfangled selfies, in which you deliberately create the image of an anime girl or the cute look of a cat from the film “Shrek”.

7. Don't overdo it with cheek retraction! And if you really want to reduce them a little, just touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth and turn your head ¾.

8. Do you think squinting is arrogant? Well, in vain - if the models did not use this trick, then on the catwalk and advertising photos their faces would look surprised and frightened. Try it yourself!

9. The main detail of a successful shot is a smile.

By the way, the times when a photographer asks you to say “cheese” or “cheeeiz” before clicking the camera have long since sunk into oblivion. It has been proven that the most natural smile comes from saying words ending in “a”, like “panda”, or simply imagining someone you love. But even when smiling with your most natural smile, you should know when to stop - the shine of all 32 teeth can highlight non-existent wrinkles in the photo!

10. Remember, if you want a wide-open look in the photo, lower your chin slightly and look up. Voila!

11. Excessive facial expressions will also have to be taken under control. You know that not all people in the world are photogenic, so a “frozen” antics or a kiss can play a cruel joke. The best advice is to smile with your eyes!

12. Find the “lucky side.”

As you know, a person’s face is not symmetrical. Observe which side you look best when shooting - and then turn to the camera in the future.

This look will make your nose longer and your face look menacingly unpleasant. It's better to look straight into the camera without tilting your head down.

14. Of course, you shouldn’t forget about the position of your legs. They should create an hourglass-shaped body silhouette.

The legs should be positioned one in front of the other, as in the picture below. Otherwise, you risk looking “shapeless” or “pear-shaped,” which will make you appear larger than you actually are.

15. And one last piece of advice: Do you remember what kind of shots you get if the photographer shoots you from above? So, don't let the photographer take pictures of you from below - this will make you look fatter, even if you're not!

Did you know that there are fashion trends that involve posing for photographs? For example, it is no longer in fashion. Then how fashionable is it to take photos? Read the answers in our article.

A well-chosen pose for photography is the key to a successful photo shoot and many positive ratings on social networks. It turns out that fashion trends also apply to photographs, so if you want to be on trend, you should take them into account.

“Which of my photos is your favorite? The one I'm going to shoot tomorrow by Imogen Cunningham.

So, what kind of photos is it fashionable to take these days?

1. Photos from the trip

Traveling has become one of the popular trends in recent times. In the new season they will win the attention of numerous fans. Crazy life in the city rhythm takes a lot of energy, and rest in the lap of nature will help restore it. The only medicine for soul and body is travel. Today it has become easier to travel to the most distant and unexplored corners of the Earth. Such photos are especially in fashion now, because they reflect the entire range of emotions of tourists. In a word, travel and take fashionable photos!

2. Minimalism

Laconic and visual images remain fashionable. Foggy and monochrome landscapes, against which you are photographed, are relevant in 2019. Versatility and simplicity are the motto of modern photography. Minimalistic photos are the trend of the new season.

3. Purple is the color of the season

The breathtaking purple hue is a great solution for stylish, bold and fashionable photography. You can take a photo in front of a wall of that color, wear something and use a purple accessory. Fashion decorators and photographers actively use ultraviolet. Take note of this idea too!

4. Naturalness

We all want to see life as real as it is. People are tired of Photoshop and pretense. A real photo from the scene of an event, a snapshot of the surrounding world and people - that’s what interests us today. Have you ever wondered why Instagram Stories are in great demand? Their secret is simple - the immediacy of moments, the naturalness of emotions and poses, the absence of additional processing. In front of the camera, many people get “lost”, do not understand how to behave and how to position themselves in order to take a winning position in the lens.

5. Ease

Effortlessness is especially valued in the images. The perception of fashion photography is rapidly changing. Look, even the world's famous brands shoot lookbooks not in a photo studio, but on the streets, cozy cafes and at concerts in crowds of people. This style of photography creates the impression that everything is done at ease, and the models are just ordinary people whom the camera managed to capture. This is exactly what fashion photos 2019 look like.

6. Animation

You can attract the attention of your subscribers with a fashionable photo with an animated effect. Such photographs are always liked more; they attract attention because they convey information to the viewer more easily. Creating an original GIF is becoming easier every day, thanks to applications and programs on smartphones. Try and experiment. Is it worth saying that the photo must be of high quality? Otherwise, it does not pretend to be fashionable.

7. Moodboards and collages

Attract attention with an exclusive composition. Such photographs win over the flow of ordinary photographs. With the help of moodboards, you can visualize any interesting idea during photo shoots.

8. Sincerity

Sincerity is always in fashion. There is no need to make a languid facial expression. Laughter and a smile from the heart will make any photo attractive. Remember pleasant things and smile. This will make the photo fashionable and real!

9. Harmonious color scheme

Fashion photography 2019 should be harmonious. To do this, you need to choose the right color scheme. Experienced photographers advise not to wear green outfits for a photo shoot, so that your face does not become the same shade. However, if your face is, for example, burnt, green clothes, on the contrary, will hide the defect.

10. Fashion photo 2019 - Jumpik

Shy people who cannot relax when taking photos should take note of jump photos. Just jump on the spot several times as high as possible. At this time, the photographer will select a suitable frame. Then you can relax and try again, other photos will turn out much better.

So, we have outlined fashion trends regarding photographs. Do you like to be photographed? What poses do you consider the most successful?
