The elements of this system can be manufactured in different ways, incl. from special purchased parts designed specifically for this purpose, or from improvised means. Naturally, in the latter case, it is possible to significantly reduce costs, and if you also do everything yourself, then the system will generally be very cheap, while functionally it will not lose anything.

Why are drainage wells needed?

At its core, drainage is a set of hydraulic engineering measures to protect structures and land from the effects of excess moisture, formed due to precipitation, floods, seasonal rise in groundwater levels, etc. Any, even the most durable structures, begin to gradually collapse if unplanned water undermines the foundation. Fertile lands flooded with water for a long time will simply lose all their best qualities.

These circumstances lead to the need to protect buildings and your site from dangerous influences, especially in areas with high natural humidity. For this purpose, a special drainage system is manufactured, which solves specific problems: collection, diversion, removal and disposal of excess water mass . Such systems are created by hand, but taking into account the recommendations of experts.

Structurally, drainage complexes include the following components:

Water elements. They are placed directly in the flood zone and can be formed in the form of trenches, to which pipe drains are connected.
Trunk elements: pipeline (drains) or a system of trenches for diverting water.
Recycling elements. This part completes the process, that is, it performs the final operation: the accumulation of water or its discharge into the soil in a safe place.
Additional operating elements. These include regulating and locking devices, fixtures and structures for the operation and repair of the system.

It is considered an important part of the entire drainage system. It can perform recycling functions (the main task) or play the role of an additional operational element. The functioning and efficiency of the entire system depend on the reliability and correctness of its installation. In particular, its volume should allow collecting all the water drained, otherwise the drainage simply will not provide the required drainage.

What wells are included in the system

When providing drainage with your own hands, the following types of drainage wells are provided:

Swivel option. Such wells are installed with an extended pipeline at the following points: through one turn of the pipe and at the place where several pipes converge into one line. The problem to be solved is the cleaning of pipes (drains), since mud plugs often occur at bends.
absorption type. These structures do not require prefabricated and main elements. They are dug out at different points of the accumulation of water, which itself flows into the wells. When installing such structures, it is important to form a surface slope so that moisture flows into them by itself.
Water intake wells. At their core, these are sealed containers into which all the collected moisture flows through drains. As they fill up, water is pumped out or used for technical needs, for example, for irrigation.
Filter structures- the final element of the drainage system, located in a remote area where it is possible to discharge water into the ground. In principle, this is a variant of a water intake well, in which the bottom is not hermetic, but is made in the form of a natural filter. Water seeps through the bottom zone into the soil.

The design of drainage wells depends on the task to be performed, and this difference is mainly due to the structure of the bottom area. The bottom can be equipped in two ways: to be sealed in the form of concrete pouring or leaky, based on a pillow of sand and gravel. The well shaft has a depth sufficient to accumulate the required volume of water.

Most often it is 3-5 m. The shaft wall must be waterproofed to prevent the infiltration of collected moisture into the upper layers of the soil. Finally, the top plate and hatch complete the structure. A ladder is installed in the production wells inside the mine.

When making a drainage well from car tires, you will need the following tools:

shovel bayonet and shovel;
a bucket and a strong cable for its immersion when excavating and backfilling the pillow;

When building a drainage well with your own hands, an important task is set - maximum cost savings. In this direction, the manufacture of the shaft wall from improvised means solves such a problem. One of the most common materials has become a car tire. What are the advantages of this "building material"?

First, accessibility. Used tires are, in principle, garbage, which any car showrooms can easily get rid of. Second, properties. Rubber provides waterproofing, and the reinforced frame provides mechanical strength.

Tires from trucks are best for building a well with your own hands. Their diameter is quite suitable for construction, and the width will reduce labor intensity. In addition, their strength is very high, which will hold back any ground movements.

The construction of a well from tires is carried out in the following order:

mine digging. We dig a round hole by hand. The diameter is selected 20-25 cm larger than the outer diameter of the tires. The depth is calculated taking into account specific volumes of water and, as a rule, is 3-3.5 m.
Bottom arrangement. When forming a sealed bottom, a pillow is first filled in from a mixture of sand and crushed stone 15-25 cm thick, and then concrete 10-15 cm thick is poured. every.
Tire laying. Each tire is laid on the previous layer strictly along one axis, so that the entire column is strictly vertical. During installation, the inner cavity of the tire is filled with crushed stone, pebbles or expanded clay in order to reduce the overall shrinkage of the column. In addition, the weighting of the elements allows for a tighter fit to each other.
Filling the gap between tires and the ground made with crushed stone, pebbles or broken bricks. As the gap is filled, a thorough ramming is performed. When backfilling, it is necessary to control the location of the tires, preventing their displacement relative to the vertical.
Drain pipe introduction. To introduce the drain into the well, a hole is cut on the side of the tire along the diameter of the pipe. After it is pushed through, the joint is sealed.
Forming the top plate. On top of the shaft, lined with car tires, a slab with a hole for a hatch is laid. It is best to use a standard concrete well slab, but a metal sheet can be used. The hatch is closed with a metal or reinforced concrete lid with handles.

It is a necessary element of the system to eliminate excess moisture. To reduce the cost of construction, it can be built from tires of trucks or tractors, which will provide the necessary tightness and strength of the well wall. All work can be easily done by hand.

Many summer residents, arriving at their site, stay there to spend the night or spend their entire vacation taking care of their garden, vegetable garden. And the presence of an autonomous sewage system greatly facilitates their living, bringing them at least to some extent closer to urban conditions.

Making a sewer from tires is not difficult and does not require almost any financial outlay, while the installation of a modern sewer system is expensive.

Old car tires can be a good budget option for a small septic tank or cesspool if the amount of waste is small, which happens when people live in a country house inconsistently. In addition, the sewerage device from tires does not require special knowledge and skills in the construction business.

Advantages of a septic tank from tires and its disadvantages

The most important advantage of such a septic tank is:

almost zero cost, unlike other types of septic tanks;
tires from any equipment can be used;
simple installation that can be handled by one person.

The disadvantages of a septic tank from tires include:

the fragility of such a structure, no more than 10-15 years; unreliable sealing due to tire mobility;

the appearance of unpleasant odors, which can only be eliminated by installing a fan pipe;
repair of such a septic tank is almost never carried out, as well as dismantling, due to its uselessness.

How to dig a sewer

First of all, you need to find out at what level the groundwater is located on your site. To do this, near the house, at a distance of about one meter, you should dig a hole 1.5 m deep. If no puddles of water have formed at the bottom, you can safely proceed to the construction of an autonomous sewer.

You can buy old car tires at any car service. It is better to choose larger diameter tires from tractors or heavy vehicles. In this case, the volume of your septic tank will increase. The number of tires is calculated based on the depth of soil freezing in your area. It is necessary that the depth of the sewage pit from automobile tires be below the freezing level of the soil. This is done if you intend to use your septic tank in the winter, even if only periodically.

Secondly, after the car tires are already on your site, you need to choose a place for the future septic tank.

Remember that it should be located no closer than 25-30 meters from drinking water sources - wells, wells, as well as from a river, lake or pond.

The location of a cesspool or a septic tank made of tires, however, like any other, is affected by the direction of the winds in your area. It is necessary to place the septic tank in the direction from which the unpleasant smell will not be carried by the wind to the living space.

Having chosen a place, they decide how to dig the sewers - manually or hire a small excavator. It's all about time and the presence of male hands. You can dig by hand, but it will take longer than digging a hole with an excavator. And to hire equipment - you will need to invest some financial resources. The choice, of course, is yours.

When the pit is dug, several holes are drilled in its bottom with a garden drill, into which two perforated special pipes up to 4 meters long are inserted.

This is due to the fact that the water from the septic tank will go into the soil, where it self-purifies.

The bottom of the pit is cleaned, giving it a flat surface, and a layer of gravel or crushed stone is poured 15-20 cm high. The pipes inserted into the drilled holes should protrude 60-70 cm above the bottom of the pit, and their top should be covered with polypropylene meshes sewer waste did not get into the pipes.

Before laying tires, cut off all edges that are folded in so that solid fecal waste does not accumulate in these places. Tire trimming can be done with a hacksaw or a jigsaw.

To the dug hole, you still need to dig a trench into which a sewer pipe will be laid leading from the country house from plumbing fixtures - sinks, toilets, showers or baths. The trench should be dug in compliance with the slope from the house to the septic tank. The slope should be such that wastewater can drain by gravity into the septic tank.

This is followed by the installation of sewage from car tires. The cut tires are stacked on top of each other, having previously laid a liquid sealant between them.

The top tire should protrude slightly from the ground surface.

Backfilling the space between the walls of the pit and the tires is done after the sealant has hardened. Excess soil left after backfilling can be used for other needs.

When backfilling, it is possible to fill in coarse gravel between the car tires and the walls of the pit, which will not allow the soil to silt up and become an extra outlet for sewage through the cracks that invariably form between the tires, no matter how they are sealed.

The top car tire is covered with a cover made of polypropylene, a metal sheet or other material that is resistant to moisture and temperature extremes.

To get rid of an unpleasant smell, the septic tank is equipped with a fan exhaust pipe, which should rise above the septic tank.

The length of the hood depends on:

the place where the septic tank is located,
prevailing winds in the area.

The closer the septic tank is to a residential building, the higher the exhaust pipe should be.

The top of the septic tank can be decorated with ground cover plants, their growth does not require a lot of soil, they can grow, practically, on stones. And you can lift the lid to check the level of the sewer directly with the plants.

Well with a flower bed

To build such a well with your own hands to decorate the site, you will need:

3 old car tires
2 identical pieces of timber or logs as a support for the roof,

4 pieces of thin timber for the roof frame,

To build such a flower bed is a matter of several hours.

It is necessary to make slots in the tires into which the pieces of timber will be inserted. They will hold the roof. The cuts can be made with a knife or saw. It is also possible to install supports outside the tires.
Tires are placed on top of each other so that the cutouts match.
Bars are inserted into the cutouts and hammered into the ground.
After that, the design needs to be painted.

Attention! There may be residues of machine oil on the tires, so they must be prepared: washed with detergent, dried, wiped with a degreasing agent (gasoline, alcohol, acetone).

The paint that is suitable for painting such a well is

oil (sticks well, but lasts no more than a few seasons, then you will need to renew),
enamel,
bituminous,
rubber (there is no rubber in the composition, but this paint is elastic and will not crack when the tires expand or contract with changes in temperature).

It is most convenient to paint a tire well with a spray gun or from a spray can. After the paint has dried, you can apply the pattern with a brush.

The roof can be made gable or shed. It will look good if it is covered with real roofing material, for example, slate, corrugated board, boards. The roof frame is made in the form of a lattice of thin bars.

When the well is ready, a flower container is placed inside. It doesn't have to reach the bottom. If it is smaller, then you can put a stand in the well, and already on it - a container.

What else can decorative tire wells be used for?

Decorative well around the trees. To do this, take 2-3 tires. Such a well is made only around young trees.
Flashlight. A lantern can be placed under the roof of the well, and it is not necessary to conduct electricity for this. You can use flashlights on photocells, which are charged by the sun during the day, and after dark they begin to glow. If you want to use an electric torch, you must lay the power cable in compliance with all safety regulations.
Element of the playground. A decorative well may well become a place for children's games. From tires, you can make other designs for the playground.

Also, the well can be decorated more interestingly. To do this, it is coated with plaster or cement and stones or tiles are glued. From a plastic bottle or a piece of log, you can make an imitation of a well gate. On the gate you can hang a bucket in which to plant flowers.

It's not exactly decorative anymore. A septic tank is a variant of the sewer, which consists of two pits. Effluent flows directly into the first pit, where they are processed by bacteria, and the liquid partially neutralized in this way enters the second pit, where waste is also processed by bacteria. After that, almost pure water is absorbed into the soil.

Important! You can arrange a septic tank where groundwater occurs at a depth of at least 5 m.

Used car tires have proven themselves well as rings for such septic tanks. To make a septic tank with your own hands, you need to dig a hole and place tires in it according to the diagram. The figure shows a septic tank with or without a drain pipe.

The volume of the septic tank should be such that three average daily volumes of wastewater can fit in it. Based on this, it is necessary to calculate the depth and width of the well and, accordingly, the number of tires. It must also be taken into account that the water level should never be higher than the ground level. One tire is placed on the ground and the boundaries of the pit are marked. You can dig a hole a little wider so that it is more convenient to lay tires and have the opportunity to insulate the well. You need two such wells, arrange them as shown in the figure.

A layer of crushed stone about 30 cm thick is poured at the bottom of the first well, it is best to pour a concrete screed on top. A more budgetary, but less reliable option is to put roofing material or another material that does not allow water to pass through.
In the second well, a well is drilled with a depth of about 5 m, where a plastic pipe is lowered. Through it, water will be absorbed into the soil. A layer of rubble is also poured on top.
After that, the tires are laid. They are pulled together with wire, and the gaps are filled with waterproof sealant.
Further, a pipe is laid from one pit to another; for this, holes are made in the tires. Also, a pipe is laid from the house to the first well, through which water will be discharged. It should be slightly higher than the pipe through which the pipe goes to the second well.

Important! The main advantage of such a tire septic tank is its cheapness, but it does not last very long, about 15 years. It is impossible to overhaul it, therefore, in case of serious damage, you will have to arrange a new one. The condition of the septic tank should be checked every year.

It is necessary to have a septic tank

not less than 5-10 m from the house,
from a well with drinking water - at least 30 m on sandy soil and at least 25 m on clay soil,
at least 2 m from trees,
from the neighboring site - also at least 2 m.

A septic tank works best on sandy soil. It is advisable to do it where the soil does not freeze to a great depth.

What else can be made from tires

Old car tires are a material from which you can make many different things, which are shown in the photo below. In the garden, in addition to the well, you can make a variety of flower beds, garbage containers, a small pond or fountain, as well as a completely functional staircase if there is a slide on the site.

Children will be happy with the playground built from tires - you can make swings, slides, an obstacle course, figures of fairy-tale characters, and a sandbox from large diameter tires.

In addition, you can make garden (and not only) furniture from tires with your own hands: tables, ottomans, armchairs, as well as furniture for pets.

A well for decorating a garden is just one option for a decorative tire structure. In addition, such a well can also perform a practical function, for example, serve as a septic tank.

A variety of sculptures created from used tires are a creative and fun way to give used tires a second life, and, of course, help nature. But in landscape design, tires can have not only aesthetic, but also practical uses. This idea of a tree from tire tubes is definitely a more difficult work, more skillful and sophisticated, but, you see, also accessible to a mere mortal in terms of execution.

No less grandiose installations of car tires are possible in the horizontal plane. Most often, these are all kinds of dragons, funny or terrible ...
